Logo vs Monogram…
What is the difference?
You may find yourself wondering how a logo differs from a monogram. They are essentially just visual aids for an association that embodies a brand. The who or what it represents is relevant, right? Though they seem similar they have different functions with varied applications as well.
What is a Logo?
A logo is an image created to intricately and eloquently bring together iconography, typography, and stylization which represents your company or brand. Most, if not all companies, need to have something people can easily identify. An image that can be used in various ways such as embroidered or printed on a menu. A logo is this very image.
A logo is generally not associated with a specific person but rather companies that own those brands. Sometimes a carry-over of a monogram can become a logo. Though, It is more likely that imagery relevant to the industry and specific offerings are better suited to company/brand logos.
What is a Monogram?
A monogram is created through the clever stylization of two or more interwoven letters. Most commonly, and perhaps even exclusively, they are the initials of someone’s name. This is typically used to represent a person and often to show personal possession.
If you are looking to use your own monogram as your company logo, then it would be a sign of personal possession of a brand. Such as in the case of Coco Chanel. Once just a person with her own personal brand she transformed it into something bigger than herself, a company brand. However, a monogram is the perfect way to set yourself apart. It shows accessibility and dedication to maintaining a reputation, maintaining a well-structured personal brand.
Conclusion
Well, I can’t say that there is much difference between the two options. If you are looking to devise a personal brand that shouts ‘this is uniquely me’ then I would suggest going for a monogram. If you want to develop a company brand that focuses on a product or service then a logo is your best bet. So ask yourself what it is that you want to achieve and you will likely find out which option is best for you.
